April and May Campouts

Due to a tiered payment put in by council (earlier you pay. cheaper it is) for the May Council Rendezvous campout, we have to collect payments for both the April campout and May campout at either this Tuesday's (4/1) meeting or next Tuesday's meeting (4/8). The April campout is a tent campout from 4/18-4/20 and the May campout is a tent campout run by the Detroit Area Council. Due to collecting for both of these campouts on 4/1 or 4/8 the next summer camp payment of $65 per scout is not due until April 15th. The following are the costs of the upcoming campouts:

April’s Campout is April 18-20. This campout will be held at the Waterloo Recreation Area. We will be staying in Cabins. We will also be working on our cooking.
The cost is $25 per scout/ No charge for adults.

May’s campout is the May 16th-18th Detroit Area Council Rendezvous weekend. This will be held at Willow Metropark and we will be staying in tents.
The costs are a little higher on this campout due to the various activities Council is providing. For more info on this campout visit the Council website at http://www.dacbsa.org/ clicking on the Rendezvous in the events at a glance calendar on the home page.
If paid before 4/14- $30 per scout / $15 per adult
if paid after 4/14 but before 5/7 - $35 per scout / $20 per adult
If paid after 5/7 - $40 per scout / $25 per adult

Summer Camp is July 25th – August 2 at Camp Rotary in Clare, Michigan.
If your name is not on the summer camp list you can still be added at no extra cost, all you would need to do is submit either $175 for a scout attendee or $30 for an adult attendee,

Sea Base Update!!!

Greeting Parents & Crew:
We are getting precariously close to our departure.
A few things we need to take care of before we leave. All of these are extremely important.

Don’t forget :
Health Form & Photocopy of both sides of Insurance Card Dive Booties
Sun Glasses ( don’t forget a strap or I will show them how to make one from string)
Hat
Sleeping Bag & Pad (for Big Munson Island)
Photo ID & proof of age. (Required by TSA & FSB)
Fishing License (mandatory for 16 & older) http://myfwc.com/license.html
Money for Key West & Ship’s Store (they will buy their own lunch & museum admissions in Key West)
Perscriptions (FSB does not require a prescription form)
Youth cell phones will be allowed during travel and they will be allowed to take them to Key West the day of our outing. They will be collected and secured during the time we are at Sea Base.
Electronics for travel only (I-Pods & gameboys) .
Travel will be in full class A uniform (pants & shirt)
All participants to bring and wear a red troop t-shirt for photos & our day in Key West.
Council Shoulder Patches (I hope to have them at Tuesday's meeting) will need to be sewn-on before we leave.
I have purchased some Bonine (sea sickness) for the Troop first-aid kits as well as a 2 large bottles of sun block. Each person should still bring their own supply of sun block to carry with them for day use.
Bug dope is important, not only Deet for 'skeeters but a broad spectrum repellant for sand fleas & no-see-ems. (I will bring some)

I still need a few more drivers for drop-off & pick-up. Please contact me if you are willing to drive.
Feel free to call me if you have any questions or concerns.

YiS,
David Goetz

Fees from cancelled Wright Patterson Trip

To any of those who paid for the trip to Wright Patterson that was cancelled due to the weather. Your payments have been refunded to your son's scout accounts. These funds can be used for upcoming scouting expenses. Also remember that the next payment of $65 for summer camp will be due on 4/1 and this can be used to pay the majority of this payment.

Sea Base Update!!!

Sea Base Parents:
I was questioned about taking a poncho to Sea Base.
I will only state that it cannot be worn on or near the water. The BSA prohibits the use of ponchos for any on or in-water activities due to a drowning risk.
Please bring a jacket or anorak style rain gear for on use on the water.
I love my poncho but will not be taking it with me to Sea Base.
YiS,
David Goetz

This Weekend's camp "Cancelled"

Based on the winter storms expected to occur within the route from Royal Oak to Dayton, Ohio, I've decided to postpone the trip. We will try to reschedule this trip sometime within the next few months. The date will depend on the availability of the cabin at Sycamore State Park and other planned activities.
It is one thing to "be prepared", but it is another to put the Troop at risk to exhibit winter survival skills.
Sincerely,
Mark A. Pitchford
Scoutmaster

Sea Base - Special meeting prior to tommorows troop meeting

I would like to meet tomorrow at 6:30 prior to the Troop Meeting to review progress on arrangements for our Florida Sea Base adventure,
Larry Vertel & I have estimated the last installment for ground transportation, Friday lodging, shoulder patch etc at $175 /participant. I would like to receive payment by next Tuesday (3/11) so that we can process the payments before our departure.
I am sorry for the late notice but it has been difficult putting these costs together.

Learn more about the Venturing program

For those of you who are interested in learning more about the Venturing program than what has gone on in casual conversation... this is the official site at BSA. Obviously every group is different, and a key objective of a Venturing Crew at 1610 would be to be tightly integrate activities with the troop to ensure continuity of leadership and involvement, while allowing for an enhanced program better addressing the interests and needs of older scouts. There are a lot of other resources if you are interested in learning more. Don't hesitate to contact me with any questions.

All:

Several issues for your attention.

Summer Camp
If you have not paid your $110 deposit for summer camp, please bring it to this Tuesday's meeting. Summer Camp will be GREAT this year, you don't want to miss it.

This weekend’s camp at Wright Patterson Air museum
If you are planning to attend this weekend’s camp to Wright Patterson Air Force Museum we need to know and have a permission slip at Tuesday’s troop meeting.

If you cannot attend the meeting please email Mr. Pitchford HERE and let the troop know you would like to attend the camp so we may plan food and drivers.

If you just show up we may not have a space in a car for you! Please let us know.

Here is the permission slip for the Wright Patterson Air Force Base Museum trip in March. The incorrect version was previously on the web site and has been corrected).

If you have never been here please visit the museum website at http://www.afmuseum.com/ for more information.

HERE are pictures from the last troop trip to Wright Patterson.
The museum is very large with many very rare aircraft and displays. There are also a lot of photo opportunities so bring your camera! There really isn’t anything quite like this besides the Smithsonian Air and Space in Washington DC and is not to be missed.

We hope to see you there! We will be staying in a large cabin (barn), so bring a cot or sleeping pad. There is also a large field for football and other sports.
