The Northridge District is planning a "Trail to Scouting" event, which will occur on October 9-11, 2009. This is essentially the old Webelos to Woods program. Troop 1610 is taking the lead in organizing the event. We plan on obtaining direct Troop, Crew and Pack involvement in the planning and operational aspects of the event. The solicitation below is being used to get other Units involved. However, we need Adult Leaders and Scouts from Troop 1610 to be actively involved to help lead this event. Our Troop will retain the Finance Committee chair, so we will definitely need volunteers to handle payments from Troops, Crews, and Packs who register for the event. I also attached the tentative event program information.
Action Item: Please select an area of responsibility (one of the chairs listed below) in which you think you have the skill or experience to actively participate to help our Troop manage the overall process. Please let me know in which area your would like to help.
I'm looking for Troops to commit to attend and also for the Troops to assume a leadership position as one of the event chair positions to help with the event planning, organization, and operational responsibility. We are looking to fill the following chair positions (with a short description of the responsibilities):
1. Participation (promote the event, registration, inviting Packs)
2. Commissary (arrange for any group meals at lunch and feeding staff not camping with Troops)
3. Physical Arrangements (site organization, maps, parking, lay out of camp sites, firewood, lunch commissary, site assignments of Packs, signs, latrines)
4. Program Team (develop events, locate events, time schedule for events, develop activities desired by Packs, build and conduct campfire, coordinate skits, prepare final program, arrange staff meals, religious service)
5. Publicity (any advertising, pictures)
6. Health and Safety (water supply, electrical service, drainage, toilet facility maintenance, hand washing stations, nightlights at latrines, first aid, EMS, traffic safety, any first aid demonstrations, fire safety, site hazard review)
7. Patrol Leaders (training and organize properly dressed Boy Scouts or Crew Members to escort Packs between activities)
Thanks for your interest in this matter.
Sincerely,Mark A. Pitchford
