2011 Northern Tier High Adventure

Tomorrow night we will have a High Adventure meeting for all those interested in attending Northern Tier /  Boundary Waters Canoeing High Adventure in Ely, MN the summer of 2011. If your not sure if your son wants to go or not..... don't miss this meeting.

The reason I say this is that I will have a  multimedia slide show to show you and your son exactly what to expect when going on this type of trip........ and Mr. Vertel and I will be on hand to answer all your questions.

Again......If your son is not sure have him attend this meeting and we can show you what a great experience a high adventure trip can be.

See you at 6:30PM at the church tomorrow 3/23/10 Tuesday.
Mr. Manidok

Summer Camp deposits due

Just a reminder that the $50 deposit for scouts for Summer Camp is due at the March 23rd Troop meeting.  The total cost is $250, but if deposits are made after March 30th, your cost will increase by $20, to $270 except for new Webelos who are just joining our Troop.

Also, remember that any requests for camperships due to financial hardship, are also due on or before the March 30th meeting.  A previous e-mail was sent that contained the form that needs to be filled out.

Pancake breakfast - May 16

Please set aside the May 16th for our annual Pancake Breakfast at the Church.
The Pancake Breakfast is one of Troop 1610's fund raisers and is a good time to get together.

More news will be following.

Volunteers will be needed beside the Scouts.

Thank You

Bill Fabrizio
Committee Chair

Summer Camp 2010

An email was sent with the summer camp information sheet.  Please review it immediately and take the appropriate actions if your son is attending Summer Camp.  Please pay attention to the merit badge section as some scouts did not get the merit badges they originally wanted last year.

Payments
The $50 summer camp deposit for scouts is due at or before the March 23rd Troop meeting.  The total cost is $250 for scouts and $50 for adults.  Any scouts with deposits made after the end of March (except for new Webelos crossing over) will have to pay an additional $20.  The Summer Camp payment schedule is:
  • Scouts - On or before March 23rd - $50
  • Scouts - On or before April 20th - $100
  • Scouts - On or before May 18th - $100
  • Adults - On or before May 18th - $50
Camperships
Since the Troop is attending a council camp, any scout who may not be able to attend due to financial hardship can apply for a campership.  Please make note of the $25 application fee that would go towards the cost of summer camp.  The Council expectation is that the Family and Troop would also contribute to the cost.  Our Troop does have a limited helping hands fund, but the amount that can be provided for each scout would be determined by the number of applicants.  Attached to the email is the campership application that must be filled out and given to Larry Vertel on or before the March 30th Troop meeting.  Please note that even though the application lists an April 15th deadline, the summer camp leader guide has a date of April 2nd.  So please complete and submit this as soon as possible.

Physicals
Boy Scouts of America now requires annual physicals for every scout and every adult attending summer camp.  Attached is the form that must be used for this physical.  The parents must fill out sections A & C with all signatures.  The physician completes Section B.  If you or your son have received a physical already that was completed by your physician on or after July 25th, 2009, you can take this form in and have the information completed on this form.  As it usually takes time to set-up physicals, please make an appointment as soon as possible.

If you have any summer camp questions please send an e-mail contact Larry Vertel   Merit badge questions should be sent to Marty Thomas.

2011 Northern Tier High Adventure

In 2011 the Troop will be sending one or more crews to the Northern Tier High Adventure Base in Ely, Minnesota.  This is a week long canoe trip  in the Boundary Waters in August of 2011.  Attached is a brochure to give a little information about this base.

Attached in a prior email you will find an eligibility spreadsheet which details each boy's age at the time we would be attending, and their current rank.  At the top of the sheet are the eligibility requirements for the High Adventure Bases, with the Northern Tier requirements listed in red.  If your son has yes listed next to his name, he is eligible.  If there is a no listed, the reasons for ineligibility are listed.  For rank the scout can work from now to the trip to get First Class, but if age is listed the Scout is ineligible as High Adventure Bases are very strict on their age requirements.

Each crew will require a minimum of 2 adults along with the scouts.

On Tuesday, March 23rd we will have an information meeting before our Troop Meeting, starting promptly at 6:30.  Based on the information presented, we will be asking for a deposit of $50 per participant either at this meeting but no later than the March 30th Troop meeting.  The Base is opening up the 2011 reservations on April 2nd, and the number of crews requested will be based on the number of deposits submitted.
